Training Sticks

Natural Horsemanship goes hand in hand with what we do here at Killer Stix! Like others on the market, our training sticks are a very effective tool in helping you communicate with your horse. What separates us from the rest is that we put the design in your hands by offering many types of wood for your handle, laser engraving, different colors of stick blanks, leather poppers and custom thread art. We take pride in the fact that no 2 training sticks that leave here are ever the same!

Besides doing completely new training sticks, we also can customize existing training sticks as well. Check out some of the refurbished training sticks we have done in the past. We can put on different colored leather poppers, do thread art and even put on a wood handle if you choose to do that. Plus, we can seal up any training stick that has exposed fiberglass "fuzzies" that keep getting into your hand.

By using a Killer Stix, you will have a training stick that is unlike anything out there, but yet has outstanding feel and balance. Once you use a Killer Stix you won't want to use anything else. If you want to be a cut above the rest, now is the time to get a Killer Stix!

The Natural Way

When it comes to the Natural Horsemanship, the training stick is one of the most useful tools out there. However, it must be used correctly for not only your safety, but for the horse's as well. The philosophy behind the use of a training stick, along with a string or flag, is to allow you to extend your arm out and touch the horse in a manner that is meaningful to the horse while keeping you at a safe distance.

The components of a training stick are pretty simple. It's a four foot long fiberglass blank with a custom wood handle and has a leather popper on the end so you can easily attach a training string or flag. By using a training stick that is rigid versus a flexible lunge whip, it will allow you to be more precise in your application of pressure on the horse. More importantly, it will all you to more quickly release that pressure when the horse is correct.

A training string adds another useful extension to the training stick.  Our training strings are 3/8" rope that are 6 feet in length and have a leather tip on the end. Some individuals might want to use the lead rope to get the horse use to feeling the rope against their body.  The training stick works very well for this too as it may even help people who may not have the best rope handling abilities so they can manuever further away from the horse. As always, be careful not to snap the rope at the horse because it is not a whip!  The rope is to be laid gently over and around different areas of the horse.
